We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist for a long-term contract providing personal medical services to support the Department of Defense (DoD) at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, its Associated Branch Health Clinics, and the U.S. Naval Dental Center Okinawa (3rd Dental Battalion) in Okinawa, Japan.

As a part of the Advancia Aeronautics Team, healthcare workers (HCW) will be supporting the Naval Logistics Command with medical services for active-duty military personnel, their dependents, eligible DoD civilian employees, and other eligible beneficiaries designated by the Government.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The Clinical Psychologist shall perform a full range of clinical psychology services in accordance with the core privileges and/or supplemental privileges as defined by DHA-PM 6025.13 and approved by the Commanding Officer.
Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments of Active-Duty individuals and other eligible patients through individual or group settings in the Directorate for Mental Health. Local telehealth services to those receiving care are authorized, with HCW positioned at USNHO.
Provide acute consultation evaluations and crisis interventions to adults via the Directorate’s walk-in clinic, and via the Naval Hospital Emergency Department or Medical Surgical consultations, as part of a rotating daytime duty. Duties do not include overnight or weekend duty.
Administer, score, and interpret specialized psychological testing instruments for adults. Testing shall occur in the Outpatient Mental Health clinic. Testing shall include assessment for Mood disorders, Anxiety disorders, Personality disorders, Malingering, Psychotic disorders, TBI, and other neuropsychological disorders.
Complete written reports with implications of diagnosis and treatment within prescribed timelines and according to guidelines prescribed by the supervisor or higher authority. Diagnosis is made consistent with the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and relevant VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines.
Provide outpatient psychotherapy in a variety of modalities, including individual and group therapy. Treatments and suicide risk assessments will be evidence-based.
Collaborate with other disciplines within USNH Okinawa, USAF 18th Medical Group, MTF Directors, and appropriate community agencies. Collect data from all involved agencies as necessary to ensure that services are being provided in a coordinated manner with involved community agencies.
Provide consultation with patients’ commands and with other medical providers.
Attend trainings to be able to determine “Fitness for Duty” for AD service members and make appropriate recommendations.
Attend appropriate case meetings and provide information regarding the patient’s current level of functioning and severity of mental health symptomatology.
Function as an integral member of the relevant Directorate for Mental Health department team, presenting assessments and reports in team conferences and participating in the diagnosis and treatment planning for the indicated patient, as well as providing education and training to the other clinical providers, when applicable.
Identify individuals for enrollment in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) of their respective service and make appropriate consults.
Understand Bylaws of the Medical Staff and the organizational and operational policies of the MTF and comply therewith.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which may pertain to overall department functioning and team processes within the scope of Mental Health Counselor duties.
Obtain approval by the Department Head and/or Division Officer and other higher authorities as determined by law and regulation.

Education & Experience Requirements

Possess a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D. or Psy. D) in clinical psychology from an accredited college approved by the American Psychological Association and required internship programs for the degree and state licensure.
Possess a current, valid, unrestricted license to practice clinical Psychology in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. The HCW is responsible for complying with all applicable state licensing regulations.
Provide two letters of recommendation written within the preceding two years from practicing providers, supervisors, or program administrators attesting to HCW’s clinical competence, communication skills, ability to work on a multidisciplinary team, overall professionalism, etc. Recommendation letters must include: name, title, phone number, date of recommendation, address, and signature of the individual providing the recommendation.
Posses and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Demands

The HCWs shall provide services Monday through Friday between the hours of 0600 and 2200. The HCW shall be assigned an 8 to 12 hour shift. (to include an uncompensated .5 to 1 hour meal break depending on shift length). In no instance will the HCW be required to provide service in excess of 80 hours per 2 week period. The specific schedule for each HCW for each 2-week period will be scheduled 1 month in advance by the supervisor.
Position dependent upon contract award and security background investigation
Work is primarily performed indoors at a Military Treatment Facility; employee shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, have the physical ability to perform assigned tasks, and be able to lift twenty (20) pounds.
